As the Flemish poet-linguist-theologian Guido Gezelle (1830-1899) said 'Stafrijmen zijn stapstenen waarop men steunt met de stemme'—which can be translated as 'Stave rhymes are stepping stones on which the voice finds support.' Not quite as good as the original with all its 'st' starts, but still pretty poetic.
